Willie Weston

Celebrating the diverse artistic output of First Nations artists and supporting its integration into the built environment is what Wille Weston is all about. Featured in the two-bedroom suites in our boutique hotel at essence, we chose a beautiful wallpaper design called Jilamara by Jean Baptiste Apuatimi. Jilamara is a Tiwi word that refers to the ochre patterning traditionally painted on the bodies of dancers and on carved poles during Pukumani ceremonies. Jilamara is unique to the art and culture of Tiwi Islanders.

The Willie Weston team was then able to custom colour the design to perfectly work within the essence colour scheme.

Co-founders Jessica Booth and Laetitia Prunetti consult with interior designers and architects to match great projects with sophisticated designs by First Nations artists printed on high performance products.

This scalable and ongoing fee structure provides artists with regular income str­eams outside their main art practice. By working in this way, Willie Weston aims to contribute to viable livelihoods in First Nations communities across Australia.

SOREN KEARNEY

Peregian Beach-based artist and textile designer, Soren Kearney, has designed three important artistic elements for essence. Her exclusive textile design can be seen on all our team members in the form of the bandana she created.

“I love this fun addition to the team uniform. The essence bandana is a beautiful way of embracing the personality and individuality of each member of the team - its versatility means that each person can style it in their own way,” she said.

Soren also created two stunning digital artworks, Feather Palm and Heathland, that can be found in the bedrooms of our Beach Homes.

For Feather Palm Soren created a soft, hazy and delicate drawing inspired by the beauty of palms found throughout the Noosa National Park. The frond’s drape creating a feeling of serenity.

Heathland is inspired by the salt sprayed coastal heathlands of the Sunshine Coast. With colour, texture and patterns being drawn from local sandy nature trails, dunes and the Biosphere.

Soren began her creative career in the fashion industry in Sydney before moving to Peregian Beach and has since blended her design skills and passion for drawing into creating original artworks and textile prints. She explores and experiments with a range of different media and techniques with a strong focus on hand drawn flora. You can find out more about Soren here.

COLIN PASSMORE

A true Peregian Beach icon, Colin’s impressive work can be seen on level one and two of essence Boutique hotel. The original work was created especially for the essence opening, with new works to be displayed every year, so make sure you come back every year to see his new creations!

Located just down the road from essence, on David Low Way, you’ll find Colin’s studio where he welcomes visitors every weekday and it’s so worth a visit to see more of this acclaimed local artist’s work.

Born and educated in Western Australia, Colin relocated to Noosa Shire more than four decades ago, residing in Peregian Beach, and spent that time building a body of work that can be seen in the homes of collectors from around the world.

He has exhibited all over Australia as well as internationally and has developed distinct themes and unique styles of painting. One of his best-known series is of the Australian outback along with coastal imagery and in particular his Paperbark series.

EMMA NANCARROW

"We loved the way Emma saw the beauty in our coastline and could paint it in so many ways, from her interpretations of local beach scapes to abstract aerial portraits of the area and her paintings of native flowers, we are excited to have her works as part of essence," he said.

Emma has created two seascapes of Peregian Beach, an abstract aerial painting of Peregian and a floral still life work in coastal tones that features gum nuts that grow in the Noosa National Park, exclusively for essence. They can be viewed in our boardroom on level two (if available), to see the works just ask at reception.

Raised in Sunshine Beach, Queensland, and now working from her home studio in the Noosa Hinterland, Emma is a painter with a love of interiors. She has enjoyed numerous successful solo and group exhibitions and her work has been on permanent display at highly regarded galleries including; Helen Wiltshire Gallery in Port Douglas and Mission Beach, Utopia Gallery and The Reef Gallery in Cairns, Hang Ups Gallery Red Hill and Schubert Gallery Marina Mirage, Gold Coast.

ESSENCE SIGNATURE SCENT

What is the essence of essence? Tanya Ambrosini is the talented Sunshine Coast  aromatherapist who was given the task of creating the essence signature scent.

She intertwined the natural elements of the ocean and the forest found at essence, with the holiday feelings of relaxation, emotional balance, and comfort to create a signature scent found throughout the resort. The scent is a unique combination of Tangerine, Lavender, Rose Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Black Spruce, and Chamomile.

Tanya is the mother, maker and creative behind Botanist Aromatherapy. A boutique essential oil and self care brand that focuses on emotional support, empowerment, and self-love.

Her signature scent for essence can be found in our bathroom amenities, our hand and body wash, our body lotion and it is misted into each room by our housekeeping team each time a room is serviced. You can also smell it on arrival in our reception area.

“I was honoured when essence approached me to create their signature scent. Using aromatherapy to add another level to their guests stay is such a thoughtful and dynamic approach and to me, shows just how much they value the finer details,” she said.

Botanist Aromatherapy is comprised of a small team, led by Tanya, blending their products by hand in small batches. They pour love and care into everything they conceive and create products to incorporate aromatherapy into your everyday life with ease.

Echoing the natural elements surrounding essence such as the pristine waters of Peregian Beach and the natural landscape of the national park on our doorstep, Tanya intertwined the exact components from nature to bring about the feelings we want to feel when we are on holiday - relaxation, emotional balance, and comfort.

These are the elements that make up the essence signature scent and the feelings they evoke:

Tangerine: promotes happiness, calming, helps with anxiety and nervousness.

Lavender: calming, relaxing and balancing, both physically and emotionally.

Rose Geranium: relaxing, ease nervous tension, fosters peace, wellbeing, and hope.

Ylang Ylang: balance masculine/feminine energies, combats anger, restores confidence and peace.

Black Spruce: release emotional blocks, bringing about a feeling of balance and grounding.

Chamomile: Dispels anger, stabilises emotions, calming, soothes and clears the mind.

At essence, we didn't want just any old standard hotel brand of shampoo and conditioner to offer our valued guests. We know that your hair can do it tough on holidays with sun and salt water so we turned to Coolum-based organic care hair brand EverEscents.

Through years of extensive research in conjunction with world class hairdressers, highly respected cosmetic scientists and the natural health care industry, EverEscents Organic Hair Care has formulated a range of high-performance organic hair care products that we love.

We chose the tingly Organic Fresh Mint Shampoo and Conditioner to use throughout the resort, it excites the senses and is a great way to keep your hair in perfect condition throughout your break. We even have it for sale in our Lobby Shop, if you love the way your hair feels at the end of your holiday!

The beautiful products have been handcrafted and refined in the laboratory of a Certified Organic Factory in Australia. They are vegan friendly and do not test on animals.

We also recommend a visit to the Ethical Brand Co experience centre, home to EverEscents Organic Hair Care where you can see their entire and extensive range of hair care products as well as get expert advice on your hair care concerns. LILYA - TEAM WARDROBE

Lisa Chedanne is the talented designer behind the Sunshine Coast-based label, LILYA. When it came to choosing a uniform for essence, we knew her beautiful and sophisticated brand of resort wear was exactly what we wanted.

We sat down with Lisa to ask her about her label and designing the essence team wardrobe.

What is it about the Sunshine Coast that you find unique?

The landscape, it is so natural and beautiful, I love the coast as well as the hinterland, the farms and nature.

What did you think when you were approached about doing the team wardrobe for essence.

I thought easy, it made sense, I make easy to wear lifestyle clothing and the brief and colour scheme matched my aesthetic perfectly.

What elements did you draw from for inspiration for the essence team wardrobe?

The colours of the bush, the sea, the sunset, the Wallum land around Peregian and the muted chic colours of the landscape mixed with fresh whites. I also thought about the style being laid back and relaxed yet upmarket and casual with a little French Riviera feel.

Tell us about the ideas behind it?

I wanted the styles to be laid back yet upmarket and sophisticated, easy to wear for staff, with a hint of retro. It's a mix and match collection, where everything can be suited to the staff personality and their job role.

How is designing a team uniform different from designing a LILYA collection?

You have to think sturdiness even more than normal… you really have to think mix and match more, I had to come up with some men's pieces, which is new for me and I had to check things by the team at essence… which I am not used to, I wanted to make it perfect for them, so I was more nervous than normal.

How did you infused a sense of the LILYA signature into the team wardrobe?

The simplicity and easy fits of LILYA made it an easy match. LILYA is uncomplicated and perfect for everyday wear, so its kind of like your uniform right?

Do you have a favourite piece?

I love the scarves, as they are different to what I normally make and the logos Soren designed looked so fab and it really made it a uniform… but clothing wise I love the linen pants.

How do you feel about seeing it all come together?

I was super happy when I saw the first sample range… the colours were amazing…. And the scarves with the essence logo on really topped off the final look and gave it an edge.
